August - First Guest Designer

Let's meet our first guest designer this month and look at her take of our Home Decor challenge.

Let's meet Joyce for this weeks inspiration:
Hello Scrapki Friends!
I am Joyce from the USA.  I started creating mixed media art journals using old thrift shop hard bound covered books when I ran out of space in my home to store 12x12 paper layouts. Once the layouts starting stacking up in the corners of rooms, I had no choice but to find a new way to create and be able to store my creations too.  Running out of storage turned out to be a good thing for me, because it made me think more creatively when designing compositions on small pages.  I primarily create with a family photo or a photo from Pinterest along with an inspiring quotation to fill the pages in my art journals. I enjoy creating series or a collection of one theme in my books.  You can almost always find some chipboard in my art too.

I’ve recently discovered junk journals and have been obsessed with wanting to create them.  This challenge was a great opportunity to create one with the theme of Home Décor.  Creating a junk journal for this theme is a great vessel to store paint chips, photos of living spaces, fabric swatches, journaling ideas, and creating art too.  On the inside cover is a Dusty Attic lamp chipboard.  I really like how the lampshade turned out to look like a lacy etched glass lampshade using Shimmerz  Acritonez  paint and embossing powder.  The mirror and lampshade make-up a pocket on the front cover so that I can store other articles on Home Décor and tuck it behind the pocket.  I debated whether or not to include the Table of Contents from a home magazine in the junk journal, but they evoked feelings in me and I decided to keep it.  Notice the title, “Artist in Residence?”  I love that!

Thank you Joyce creating this
beautiful project!
